The NYC COVID-19 Rapid Response Coalition was formed by a small, cross-sector team of healthcare and technology leaders in New York City to protect the most medically vulnerable and underserved New Yorkers during COVID-19.
Since its founding in March at the height of the COVID-19 surge in NYC, the Coalition has brought together more than 75 organizations operating pro bono to achieve a record of impact that made a measurable difference in the life of the city and its most at-risk and underserved populations:
- SMS Outreach: Contacted more than 60,000 at-risk New Yorkers via SMS and offered channels for clinical and social services support in partnership with AWS, Metro Plus, Maimonides and the Visiting Nurse Service of New York.
- Food: Delivered more than 194,000 meals to more than 50 unique residences (e.g., shelters, apartment buildings, NYCHA housing developments) in areas hit hardest by COVID-19.
- PPE: Procured more than eight metric tons of PPE, valued at approximately $1 million, and delivered more than 60,000 surgical masks, 27,000 KN-95 masks, and 10,000 face shields to front-line community organizations.
- Testing: Facilitated the distribution of 5,500 donated test kits to front-line community-based organizations on Staten Island, Queens, Long Island and Brooklyn.
In July 2020, the Coalition integrated its operations with Public Health Solutions to expand its impact for the duration of the pandemic and beyond. The work started by the Coalition will be advanced through PHS’ Healthcare Community Partnerships work.
