A high percentage of the more than two million inmates in U.S. jails and prisons suffer from mental illness, addiction, and chronic diseases like hypertension and diabetes, and HIV/AIDS. Treating the medical and mental health needs of inmates is essential to protecting not only their health, but the public’s. Providing treatment and preventive care for inmates who will return to society can reduce the spread of communicable disease. Effective quality assurance and contract management processes are essential within this system. Public Health Solutions serves as an independent monitor of jail healthcare services in several jails in upstate New York as a result of a settlement between the Office of the NYS Attorney General and a private provider of jail healthcare. We deliver this service utilizing our legal knowledge and correctional care experience.
