Public Health Solutions (PHS) extends a warm congratulations to the newly elected leaders across NYC: Mayor-elect Eric Adams, Comptroller-elect Brad Lander, and the new members of the City Council and borough presidents. This new administration will be taking office in the wake of an unprecedented public health crisis; we know there is still a great deal of work to be done to bring health equity to all New Yorkers.

The COVID-19 pandemic continues to impact our society but especially under resourced communities and communities of color. Today, one in three children in New York City are food insecure, many New Yorkers continue to lack adequate health insurance and access to quality health care, and affordable reproductive health services continue to come under attack.

Mayor-elect Adams has always been a fierce fighter for programs that expand food access like WIC and SNAP and a solid supporter of sexual and reproductive health centers. We look forward to working with his administration to make sure all New Yorkers have access to affordable and healthy food, among many other public health priorities. We also welcome Comptroller-elect Lander’s vision for addressing the health disparities that continue to affect New York’s communities of color and eagerly await working with him to bring this vision to life.

The new Mayor, Comptroller, borough presidents, and City Council members have the chance to build on the important work of past administrations and establish their own legacies to help make New York a place where everyone can live their healthiest lives. We look forward to working with them to make this a reality.
