Public Health Solutions (PHS) congratulates Governor Kathy Hochul on her historic election as the first woman elected Governor of New York. Her administration’s commitment to public health throughout the state comes at a most urgent time in the wake of national threats to reproductive health access, increased migrant need in New York City, and fallout from the COVID-19 pandemic.
Throughout the past several months, we have applauded Governor Hochul’s prioritization of reproductive health access by using Title X replacement funding to support the Family Planning Program which supports New Yorkers everywhere as pressure for these resources continues to increase. We are excited to see how the Governor’s office will continue to support and expand these services throughout her official term.
PHS also looks forward to the impact of Governor Hochul’s recently announced NYS Institute for Immigration Integration Research & Policy on increasing access to public health and social services for immigrants in New York. New York City, in particular, has seen a steady increase of asylum seekers throughout the city in recent weeks, some of whom have sought care at PHS centers. The need for additional support for migrant populations seeking help with basic needs and essential services must remain a top priority.
In addition to these issues, PHS anticipates working alongside the Governor’s office in advocating for continued investment in community-based organizations and improving the social drivers of health throughout New York City. As the largest public health nonprofit serving New York City, we are excited to welcome Governor Hochul to her official term in office and collaborate in helping New Yorkers live their healthiest lives.
