We are very sad to share that Dr. Victor Sidel, a former Public Health Solutions (PHS) Board Member and a current Emeritus Board member, passed away recently. His life and career’s work in public health were impressive and noteworthy, and we were fortunate to have his talent on the PHS Board.

Dr. Sidel had a long and fruitful career in public health. For over five decades he fiercely advocated to bring to light nuclear proliferation as a public health issue.

He served as a chairman of the department of social medicine at Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx for 16 years, where he developed community health centers, trained interns and residents on socioeconomic impacts on community health, and spearheaded projects on both children’s health and prisoners’ health.

Dr. Sidel additionally served on PHS’ research Institutional Review Board (IRB), which was established to protect the welfare of research subjects who participate in research activities.
