All families deserve good health.

When Christina found out she was pregnant at a young age, she was filled with both joy and panic. As a child of recovering addicts, she was raised by her grandmother, who had recently passed away. She was on her own.

“I didn’t want to be a statistic. I knew I needed to find help outside my family.”
– Christina

She turned to our Bushwick Bright Start program, based in her Brooklyn community.  This home-visiting program helps low-income, high-risk women during pregnancy and until their babies reach five years of age. Women and their babies receive intensive home-based parenting education and support, child development screening and tools, and referrals to services for parents of newborns.

Today, Christina has two healthy, playful children, a job she enjoys, and renewed confidence in being a good mother.

Working Toward Solutions

For 60 years, Public Health Solutions has improved the lives of vulnerable New Yorkers like Christina. Like you, we believe that everyone deserves good health.

That’s why we are asking you to join fellow New Yorkers in ensuring this is attainable for the hundreds of thousands of families who are living at or below the poverty level in our city.

Give the Gift of Good Health

Here is a glimpse of the impact your support has on families in New York City:

  • By addressing the critical food, nutrition, and health needs of more than 40,000 financially struggling soon-to-be mothers a year, we directly boost the economic futures for these families by putting money back in their pockets – and into the economy – to use for fresh food and basic needs for their children.
  • More than 350,000 low-income New Yorkers are now enrolled in health insurance since the start of our health insurance enrollment program, most of them immigrant families with young children.
  • Long-term, your support leads to healthier pregnancies and improved growth and development of young children. What’s more, research shows the children helped by our programs are more likely to do better in school, have fewer emotional and physical problems, and have lower obesity rates.

How You Can Help

This is an extraordinarily challenging time for our organization and, more importantly, for the families we help. Proposed government budget cuts to these and other services will, if passed, have a devastating impact on the health of NYC’s most vulnerable communities.

Families most in need could lose their health insurance, and lose support from effective health services like our Bushwick Bright Start program. Christina and her children would be the ones being hurt.

When you make a donation, you join other New Yorkers who want ensure that health remains a priority for all of us. Thank you for supporting Public Health Solutions in our work to improve health, reduce medical costs, prevent disease, and help New Yorkers toward self-sufficiency.
