“Public Health Solutions applauds the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s approval of Opill, the nation’s first nonprescription oral contraceptive, as a groundbreaking expansion for women’s health in our country.

This is a major milestone in the fight to ensure everyone, including the BIPOC and low-income communities that PHS serves, has equal access to quality sexual and reproductive health care. Brooklyn, where both of PHS’ Sexual and Reproductive Health Centers are located, is the borough with the most contraceptive deserts, and we have been on the frontlines of this fight for over sixty years.

We anticipate that this approval will be challenged in the courts or in legislation, but we are prepared to make every effort to support our communities,” said Public Health Solutions President and CEO Lisa David.
