About Bereavement

WHETHER YOUR BABY HAS DIED LATE IN YOUR PREGNANCY, AT BIRTH OR LATER, the loss you are experiencing is devastatingly profound. There is no greater loss than the death of a child!

Some people think that when a baby dies before birth or at birth, one’s grief is not as great as when a baby is born alive, has grown and become more fully known.

But, during your pregnancy ….

  • You started getting to know your baby.
  • You may have named your baby and talked to him or her.
  • You cared for your baby each day.
  • You waited for your baby to be born.

You are and always will be the parent of this baby!

Now that your baby has died, you are experiencing intense feelings of loss that include:
  • Sadness
  • Emptiness
  • Numbness
  • Bewilderment
  • Confusion
  • Blame
  • Guilt
  • Helplessness
  • Loneliness
  • Abandonment
  • Depression
  • Fear
