We play a critical role in preventing the spread of HIV and assuring that those living with HIV/AIDS are connected to high-quality care in their communities. Our multi-pronged approach is three-fold.

Research, produce, and disseminate innovative HIV prevention strategies that target those most at risk. PHS’ online educational intervention has been shown to be effective in reducing HIV risk behavior for more than 300,000 people.

Integrate HIV prevention interventions into our own health programs. Our reproductive health centers conduct HIV and STD testing and treatment, and educate adults and teenagers on sexual health topics.

Collaborate with government agencies to serve as a subcontract manager to over 200 community-based organizations and hospitals in the delivery of HIV prevention and care services. Working in partnership with NYC DOHMH, we ensure that needed funding is received in a timely manner and spent appropriately by organizations serving people living with and at risk for HIV.

PHS has a huge role in preventing the spread of HIV and assuring that those living with HIV/AIDS are connected to high-quality care. In 2017, the NYC DOHMH announced that new HIV diagnoses rates have reached a historic low in New York City.

PHS is ahead of the curve in targeting high-risk populations through our work with NYC DOHMH, including:

  • Transgender Centers of Excellence
  • Outreach to homeless LGBTQ youth
  • Harm Reduction Services for Injection Drug Users
  • Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) and Post Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP)
