Upon completion of this training the participant will be able to:

  • Understand the four management functions of planning, organizing, directing, and monitoring
  • Understand the importance of supervision in supporting the functions of management on a day-to-day basis
  • Recognize current perspective about supervision and how it affects work as a supervisor
  • Delegate tasks appropriately and effectively
  • Apply the model of performance management to supervisory responsibilities
  • Develop performance plans as the basis for establishing clear and shared expectations for job performance
  • Monitor job performance through measurement of actual performance against performance plans
  • Provide effective and timely feedback to supervisees
  • Use regularly scheduled and structured one-to-one supervision sessions to support monitoring and developing staff
  • Assess staff development needs and set goals with supervisees for inclusion in development plans
  • Reward staff through a variety of means to reinforce successful performance
  • Conduct staff performance appraisals appropriately and confidently

Target Audience: This training is targeted to senior administrative staff and program managers.

One-on-One Coaching: To ensure that participants apply the new knowledge they have gained during the training and to clarify any issues and/or answer any questions about the training content, attendees can receive at an additional cost one-on-one coaching from the trainers, via email and/or phone subsequent to the training.
