An opportunity for donors to advance the development and implementation of solutions to critical public health problems facing at-risk low-income individuals, families and communities

A Compelling Need

The health problems facing at-risk low-income men, women, children and families in New York are daunting. They impact every aspect of daily life and they are intensifying.

A Real Opportunity

There are solutions to these health problems. For example, we know it is possible to:

prevent disease, reduce health risks and keep people and communities healthy
help women have healthy babies, teens avoid pregnancy, and people with HIV/AIDS get essential care and support;
reduce the risk of life-threatening and chronic disease by increasing access to health insurance and helping those at risk find healthcare; and
make progress on problems that are especially tough to solve through research and evaluation to develop and test new and creative approaches.

A Sharp Focus

The Solutions Fund will invest in six essential areas:
Women’s Health: Enabling women to take control of their health, preventing unintended pregnancy and improving birth outcomes;
Infant and Child Health and Development: Enhancing child development and linking at-risk children to services, preventing childhood obesity;
Access to Healthcare: Helping the uninsured access health insurance and health care;
HIV/AIDS Prevention and Care: Preventing HIV infection and developing networks of care for those with HIV and AIDS;
Research and Evaluation: Understanding patterns of disease and behavioral risk factors and assessing the effectiveness of public health programs; and
Strengthening the Community: Building capacity of the diverse care providers serving at risk low-income women, children and families.

Responsive to Donor Interests

Donors to the Solutions Fund will be kept informed about developments in areas of interest to them and will learn about annual achievements. Information about the underlying problems being addressed and examples of effective programs like those the Solutions Fund will support is available here.

A Wise Investment
