A Compelling Need
The health problems facing at-risk low-income men, women, children and families in New York are daunting. They impact every aspect of daily life and they are intensifying.
A Real Opportunity
There are solutions to these health problems. For example, we know it is possible to:
| • | prevent disease, reduce health risks and keep people and communities healthy |
| • | help women have healthy babies, teens avoid pregnancy, and people with HIV/AIDS get essential care and support; |
| • | reduce the risk of life-threatening and chronic disease by increasing access to health insurance and helping those at risk find healthcare; and |
| • | make progress on problems that are especially tough to solve through research and evaluation to develop and test new and creative approaches. |
A Sharp Focus
The Solutions Fund will invest in six essential areas:Women’s Health: Enabling women to take control of their health, preventing unintended pregnancy and improving birth outcomes;
Infant and Child Health and Development: Enhancing child development and linking at-risk children to services, preventing childhood obesity;
Access to Healthcare: Helping the uninsured access health insurance and health care;
HIV/AIDS Prevention and Care: Preventing HIV infection and developing networks of care for those with HIV and AIDS;
Research and Evaluation: Understanding patterns of disease and behavioral risk factors and assessing the effectiveness of public health programs; and
Strengthening the Community: Building capacity of the diverse care providers serving at risk low-income women, children and families.
