History
Public Health Solutions was founded 50 years ago as Medical and Health
Research Association of New York City, Inc, a "research foundation" for
the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH). Its purpose was to
facilitate the creation and administration of research projects and
provide greater flexibility to seek new funding resources for research that would inform the work of the DOHMH and other New York City organizations.
Always sensitive to emerging public health challenges, our leadership
soon recognized the need to build upon this foundation of rigorous
scientific research in order to link research and practice in dynamic
ways to directly improve the health of communities and the people most at-risk.
Over the years, Public Health Solutions has continued to expand and
successfully demonstrate new core competencies. It delivers health services,
develops networks of care through regranting, designs and
executes research projects, and provides technical assistance to help other
nonprofits and government agencies tackle chronic and emerging health issues.
Today, Public Health Solutions, one of the City's largest non-profit organizations, is widely recognized for its expertise and proven track record in helping to illuminate critical public health issues, and in designing, implementing, assessing and recommending effective methods and programs for preventing disease and improving health in New York City and beyond.
