The Nurse Family Partnership (NFP) is nationally accredited, evidence-based nurse home-visiting program for high risk, low-income, first-time mothers, their infants, and their families. Public Health Solutions is one of five recipients of funding from the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene to make NFP available to all eligible families in New York City. Beginning in early March, 2008 Public Health Solutions’ NFP will provide services to 200 families in Northern Queens and Far Rockaway and phase up to 300 families in the future.
In her January 2, 2009 Child Watch Column, Marian Wright Edelman, President of the Children’s Defense Fund, writes about the difficulties of both being a parent—and learning how to be a good one. In her article, Edelman discusses the effectiveness of home visiting programs for parents in need of help with childrearing. Nurse Family Partnership and Healthy Families home visiting programs are two she highlights.
