Public Health Solutions, through its Neighborhood WIC Program, offers peer counseling to new mothers to encourage them to breastfeed. Our peer counselors are mothers, often WIC participants, who have had positive breastfeeding experiences and want to help other women breastfeed. They live in the same neighborhoods and speak the same language as the women they are counseling and they act as mentors or friends, giving new mothers encouragement, confidence and support before and during the breastfeeding process.
