 Baby Basics

Baby Basics is a prenatal, health literacy education program that incorporates provider training, patient discussion groups, an attractive, informational guide written at a third and fifth grade reading level, and a personal care planner into a comprehensive system of prenatal care. Baby Basics is available to women at the MIC-Women Health Services Center in Jamaica and Astoria and will be implemented at all MIC sites during 2008, in partnership with The What To Expect Foundation through the support of a grant from the New York State Health Foundation. In its pilot phase, the program was shown to increase adherence to the ideal prenatal care schedule, improve patient satisfaction with their visit experience and reduce the number of broken appointments for post-partum care.
